Title: Meditation: Saturday, January 26, 2002

The Catholic Calendar for Saturday, January 26, 2002
   Saints Timothy and Titus

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
   Titus 1:1-5
   Psalm 80:2-3,5-7
   Mark 3:20-21

A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

Today is the feast of Saints Timothy and Titus, who worked closely with St. Paul to spread the gospel in the early church. Paul makes reference to Timothy in several of his letters and describes him as a beloved son, brother, friend and coworker. Titus was seen as a very efficient and zealous man, able to bring about peace and unity in a competent and decisive manner.

Today's feast can be a reminder then that God calls different people with different personalities, gifts and talents to serve Him, to work towards the same goal: spread the Good News of the Gospel and make present the Kingdom of Heaven. We are all called to serve God in our unique way despite our various failings and imperfections.

Today, we ask the Lord for the strength and courage to bear witness to Him in our daily lives. We ask the Lord to send forth His Holy Spirit so that we may discern His will in our lives and strive for closer union with Him.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
