A Reflection from Holy Scripture . . .

Today we hear about David, the man chosen by God, in all of his
weakness. He was tempted as he looked upon Bathsheba and then
followed through with sin after sin until he had Uriah killed on the
battlefield.

It seems to be a horror story with poor innocent Uriah getting the
raw end of the deal. Doesn't life seem like that sometimes? The good
guy always doing for his neighbor and then nothing goes right for
him. It brought to my mind the story of another "good guy", one who
only did great things like healing the sick, making the deaf hear,
the blind see and the cripples walk in addition to laying down his
life for his friends! Think about the way HIS life ended, hanging
from the cross and all he ever did was good things!

The gospel today tells us of the tiny mustard seed that grows to be
the largest shrub. That seed is like the beautiful gift of our faith
that comes to us at Baptism. Nourished by our parents and teachers
and as we mature, by our prayer and continued study, our faith grows
and increases. With that faith we know we can come before the Lord in
the Sacrament of Reconciliation to ask for forgiveness when we slip
and fall. We don't have to handle anything ourselves for we have the
best friend anyone could ever have in our Savior, Jesus!

              Lord, teach us Your ways!
                   Help us in our weakness!
Pour out your grace upon us
as we place all our trust in You!
                   Amen
