The Second Sunday of Easter: Divine Mercy Sunday

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
    Acts 2:42-47
    Psalm 118:2-4,13-15,22-24
    1 Peter 1:3-9
    John 20:19-31

A reflection on today's Scripture:

The Second Sunday of Easter is now also known as Divine Mercy Sunday.
The liturgical texts of this 2nd Sunday of Easter, concern the
institution of the Sacrament of Penance, the Tribunal of the Divine
Mercy. This Feast, which had already been granted to the nation of
Poland and had been celebrated within Vatican City, was granted to
the Universal Church by Pope John Paul II on the occasion of the
canonization of Sr. Faustina on 30 April 2000.

It has been revealed by St. Faustina that Jesus wishes us to be more
aware of His mercy. The message of mercy is that God loves us - all
of us, no matter how great our sins. He wants us to recognize that
His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him
with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to others.
Thus all will come to share His joy and life eternal. We can easily
remember these three ABC's of Mercy:

ASK for His mercy: God wants us to approach Him in prayer constantly,
asking Him to pour out His mercy upon us and the whole world.

BE merciful: God wants us to receive His mercy and to let it flow
through us to others. He wants us to extend love and forgiveness to
others just as He does to us.

COMPLETE Trust: God wants us to know that the graces of His mercy are
dependent upon our trust. The more we trust in Him, the more we will
receive.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
              for his mercy endures forever.
(Ps.118)
