A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

There are two themes in the readings for today: prayer, and the
dispositions necessary to enter the kingdom of God.

In the first reading from St. James we are reminded of the importance
of faithfulness to prayer....in all occasions; in sadness, in
sickness as well as in joyful times.

The gospel is a familiar one, in which Christ speaks up when the
apostles try to remove the children from Him, thinking that they
might get in His way. Christ said..."Suffer the little children to
come unto me, for of such is the kingdom of God" (Mark 10:14)

Any adult who has ever had the good fortune to hear the prayers of a
child, such as at bedtime, can understand their beautiful
straightforward innocence. They tell it like it is, and have absolute
trust in God. That is what God asks of all of us, all of the time.

We, like a child, can jump into His arms during the storms of life,
ask for insight when faced with decisions, and share our joys when
all seems to be going fine. Christ experienced the joys, stresses,
and strains of life as did His blessed mother. We can lift our mind
and heart to God anywhere and anytime! What an opportunity! What a
friend we have in Jesus!
