A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

What wonderful timing! On the day before July 4th, birthday of
America's independence, we are reminded that before we are citizens
of any country on this planet, we are first citizens of God's
kingdom. On this feast of St. Thomas, patron of architects, we are
treated in the first reading to a building plan for that kingdom. As
God sent first Prophets to prepare the way, so too did he send the
Apostles. By their witness and martyrdom, they laid the foundation
for us in the churches of the present day. From Asia to Rome to
Greece to Africa...a myriad number of churches through the centuries!
How proudly we proclaim that we, too, are citizens of the kingdom,
with all the rights and privileges, the duties and responsibilities
that go with it. And fortified by the grace of Christ, we are
prepared to uphold tomorrow the values, virtues, and dreams of
America.
