Last Saturday evening after the feeding frenzy called dinner had subsided, I
noticed a spot of fresh blood on the kitchen floor. Not a smear or a streak,
but a spot like it had dropped from high up.

I asked my husband if he was bleeding (he'd been working in his shop!), and
got a negative answer. So the body search of all the dogs began. No open
wounds on any of them. Curly had a smear of blood on his stifle, and one on
his hip...there was another drop outside on the patio. Then I looked at
Moe...his belly had bright red spots. Sort of like subcutaneous bleed outs,
size of a pencil eraser. About 20-30 of them. My first thought was Warfarin
ingestion. His gums were slow to respond in returning to their normal color
(anemia?)...I checked everywhere,,,all the other dogs...no more spots. Just
on Moe's tummy. None in the under arms. He was a bit grouchier than normal,
but had just eaten a good dinner and seemed fine in all other aspects.

My vet suggested I give him a 1/4 cup of liver that nite, and bring him in
for blood work in the morning. Also, use a white pillow case and sheets for
his bed in case he should bleed any more. She suspected a nose bleed-hard to
tell on a black dog.

Lab tests were normal. Red/white cell counts ok. Every thing except a bit
low in phosphorus and high esophiles. Liver panel fine, (whewwww).

She thought he may have allergies....the spots are fading. No more
blood...anybody else have anything like this happen? I'm stumped. We've
lived in the same house now for 4 yrs...nothing like this has happened
before.
