Since the sixties the number of animals euthanized in shelters has dropped to 25-30% of what it was, and that is in whole numbers, not related to the total animal population (Maybe there aren't as many born, or maybe there are more because there are more people, don't know) It is still a huge number, but I guess my point here is that the rescue work that is going on all over in all breeds and for non-purebred dogs too is having a very large impact. It has to seem hopeless sometimes, but the number of dogs euthanized has dropped dramatically.
