Over the years I have shown in some pretty bad circumstances but
Durham Kennel club takes the prize. As we are driving down the
narrow.... part dirt/part gravel road.... to Durhams show site we see
cars parked on the side of the road. A gentleman approaches us to
tell us that they lost their parking area because of rain. Our first
question is how far do we have to walk and he informs us it is over a
mile. Why would a Kennel Club buy land that cannot be parked on it,
if it rains? Why would the AKC approve the grounds to hold a show
there? Do they not think of the exhibitors. Most of the motorhomes
arriving the night before were parked closer to the site but one
motorhome had to pull over and park along the edge of the road. Any
motorhome trying to leave the grounds could not get out. The road
was too narrow for 2 cars to pass each other with cars parked on the
edge of the road.
To top it off there were stickers on the grounds - just
wonderful for dogs to walk on. Linzi was pulled out first and on the
last go around she began favoring her right front foot. The judge
commented to Jim that she must have hurt herself. She was really
limping by the time Jim got her back to the van. He took a cloth and
wiped between the pads of her feet and put her in her crate. We got
her out about 15 minutes later and she was perfectly fine. We can
only assume that she had stepped on a sticker. The next day, today,
she was WB/BOW.
