Joyce - another great remnedy for skunks is:
1 quart hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
1 tsp. liquid soap
Skunk essence is made up of sulphur molecules. The materials in this
recipe, when mixed together, form an alkaline peroxide, which chemically
changes the skunk essence into sulfonic acid, a completely odorless
chemical. The soap is added to break down the oily skunk essence.
When I have used it, I mix the stuff, slop it on (avoid the eyes), wait a
minute or two and give a regular bath. If the dog is sprayed only in a
small area, I have mixed smaller amounts...works great.
