I was traveling with my handler one weekend,
following him. Those 12 to 14 hour rides to
a dog show where taking a toll on me.

All my friends where of the rich persuasion
not having to work. Leisurely leaving for dog
shows on Wednesday or Thursday and even
stopping along the way to sightsee!

I myself am of the poor, gotta show my dog
persuasion, who has to work!

So we left Friday nites after work and usually
drove straight thru to the dog shows.

Staying awake during these trips became a mission.

I found that making Lipton instant tea in gallon
jugs, works better than coffee! and.....
I love to read so my handler turned me on to books
and motivational speakers on cassette.

Listening to these books on tape was a life saver for
me. It keeps you more alert and awake during those
long nighttime drives.

Although, I must admit I am a Steven King lover,
and one time driving down those dang two lane
roads thru rural Indiana listening to a Steven King
tape, I actually started to get scared!!! But it kept the
adrenaline going and kept me awake!

My friends know that I drive straight thru to shows
without sleep, so if they see me napping ringside (I
have mastered this in the upright position with sun
glasses on) they leave me alone. Except I slept thru
my bitch winning her first 4 point major!!

Just another dumb dog show story!!
