Went to the seminar from Dr. Carolyn Blakey last night. Wow! What an eye
opener. I won't get into all of it...but this is something you all need to
know!!!
A couple of years ago, Dr. Blakey had a Dane come in with bloat and torsion.
The owner didn't have any money, so surgery was out of the question...she
tried passing the stomach tube with no success - her stomach had already
torsioned. To try to give the Dane a little more comfort, she performed
acupuncture...
And was able to REVERSE THE TORSION!
She then passed the stomach tube and was able to save this Dane without
surgery! She now performs acupuncture on every single dog that comes into
her clinic with bloat symptoms! With pretty good success, I might add.
And Ruby, the very first thing she did was show us Dr. Goldstein's book and
tell us that this was the most important book we could read! (Thought you'd
like that!)
I didn't take a whole lot of notes...most of what she said was stuff I
already knew - diet, vaccines, Rescue Remedy & Bach's Flower Essences...
Oh, by the way, there's now a book out called Flower Essences for Animals -
have to get that one since I know our local health food store carries all
the flower essences.
She was really very encouraging - I asked her about a couple of products in
Dr. Goldstein's book that I'd like to get and she said she'd gladly send
them to me - just give her a call.
Let's see...some other tips she recommended...
for arthritis - Sea Cucumber, particularly a product called "Sea Jerky"
for arthritis - MSM
for ruptured disks - Ligaplex
if you choose to give heartworm - use Heartguard, not Heartguard Plus and
give every 6 weeks on the nose
Also recommended a book called "Beyond Obedience" - didn't catch the author.
This is a good psyche book in terms of understanding why your dog does they
things he/she does for you. The author is also a Reiki master. (We touched
on Reiki only slightly, but our local health food store does have classes by
a Reiki master...)
Touched on applied kinesiology which sounded pretty interesting.
And finally, I met a woman who is getting a Dane pup in January and we
talked extensively. Hopefully I'll get to talk to her more before she gets
her pup - I've offered to let her meet my dogs and help any way I can.
She's currently feeding Nutro to her Dobe and just can't quite make the step
to BARF, so I'll do some coaching if it will help.
It was a great 2 hours - and it's nice to know that she's so willing to do
phone consults and send products!
And the acupuncture info was a big WOW!
