I have it out, unlocked and either in my non-leash hand or in my right pocket, unlocked, where I can instantly grab it. When we go anywhere! It's on my keychain, so even from the house to the car, it's out. I always tell her it's in case we see any big, mean dogs who want to bother her<G>. And no, when it comes to her, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to use it. If a dog comes up and they seem fine I just watch. But if one ever tries to start anything with her I WILL use it and they'll be lucky if I don't let her finish (she'd probably just want to run home anyway-she's a lover, not a fighter).
