About 8 pm tonight, Kevin and I got this call from my brother. The car in
front of him hit a dog and it had fallen down an 8 foot embankment and into
the Delaware river. We immediately jumped in the car with blankets,
flashlights and a rope to go help rescue this poor pooch. When we got
there, it was in the shallows/mud just laying there. My brother, Layne,
climbed down the embankment using the rope and checks to see if the dog has
a ID tag. Of course it doesn't and he then proceeds to calm the dog down.
He then throws the blanket over the dog and picks it up and climbs back up
the embankment. The dog, through all of this, never made a sound nor
attempted to bite or anything aggressive.
We bundled the dog up in the car and off we go to the 24 hour emergency vet.
We get to the vet and they, first off, ask us if will take responsibility
for this stray. We told them "Of Course!". Well, the dog is actually in
fairly good shape with only a broken left front leg visible. They are going
to take X-rays later tonight to see if anything else is broken and how bad
the leg is. The doctors will call us tomorrow and let us know the extent of
her injuries but they don't think it is too bad.
She is a very sweet, older lab-mix and all the doctors have already fell in
love with her. Could everyone say a prayer for this sweet girl and that her
leg is not broken too bad.
And BTW she already has a home. My brother's girlfriend is going to take
her if we can't find the owners. She is not going to the shelter! Yeah!!!!
Anyway, please keep her in your thoughts and prayers and I'll keep you
posted on "Stray Hawley".
