Someone help. I went to the address and there was only one question. My
answer was I joined for breed info which was 41% of the people reason for
joining such.
I have tried over the years to instill into the club the realization of the
need for this type of club. Unfortunately after 35 years, I've been unable
to open them up to realizing pet owners want help as well with their beloved
breed.
Our club has become "strictly conformation". They don't want to hear
obedience, pet, rescue...anything but show, show, show for conformation.
Even by AKC standards, this is not meant to be the purpose of Dog clubs.
After all these years of "spinning my wheels" I have joined the ranks of the
majority of our membership. I pay my dues and stay home!
I don't show anymore (haven't for years) - can't afford to do so, too busy
taking care of the rescues and my own crew which currently numbers 13 and 4
danes waiting to come in. I do this for the most part single handedly with
no financial help which is sorely needed. I work 3 jobs to support us. AND,
YES, I'M TIRED.
After 34 years in Rescue, I've had pretty much enough and have directed the
majority of calls to other rescue groups and have restricted my self to
emergency situations for the most part. THIS IS THE SEASON FOR ALL THOSE
PEOPLE TO DUMP THEIR DANES! :o((( Can't bring that big dog in the house,
heaven forbid. 3 of the Danes I have are my own; ages 11, 6 and 3.
I'd love to be able to enjoy them and give them more attention of their own.
And I do fully intend to do so. It is for this reason I have restricted my
rescue work dramatically.
I can't be the world's bandaid for Dane rescue anymore. I'm 54 years old and
tired. I intend to enjoy the danes of mine.
I've earned the respect of my fellow club members, but that doesn't ease my
burden and help the rescues to see a placque on the wall.
PERSONAL OPINION.: BREED CLUBS SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO SUPPORT RESCUE, DROP
MEMBERS WHO FAIL TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR GET, AND OPEN THEMSELVES UP
TO THE PET OWNERS AND OBEDIENCE & AGILITY ADVOCATES.
But then that would make this a perfect world. :o)
For anyone interested in the Ohio area or anyone interested in traveling a
bit, I currently have a brindle bitch born 4-1-99, cropped & standing, crate
trained and housebroken but unfortunately taught to jump on people. Good
disposition, just needs training, spaying and microchipping.
Also available is harl bitch (mostly white but not deaf). Big, cropped but
one ear lays cockeyed, housebroken, crate trained (but good at escaping) gets
along with other animals but is 100% puppy and into everything. Needs
attention.
NONE OF MY DOGS ARE FOR SALE. DONATIONS ARE APPRECIATED.\
