Eric,
Please add a comment to hasSSHControlMasterFeature to explain why it
works (I've worked it out, but it required checking the ssh manual).
Please provide a way to disable the use of ControlMaster even if
available -- that will come in handy if it turns out that
ControlMaster is not portable (for example because the underlying
system doesn't do Unix domain sockets).
Other than that, it looks okay to me, although I'll wait a few days to
let people check it before I push it.
