Ok, so that hanging is the stuff you were experiencing before... now
what I'm betting is if you run darcs with --disable-ssh-cm, keeping
that ControlMaster=auto stuff in your .ssh/config, and not using
ssh-agent, you might have a working darcs, typing your password only
once.

If you're still willing to poke around, that is...
