I can confirm this and I can also say that it does *not* happen with darcs
1.0.9rc1.  Maybe someone else is more lucky in tracking down the patches
that caused this problem.  In all my attempts, after many unpulls and
pulls I ended up with an unusable repository (like conflicts coming out 
of the blue) and hence finally gave up.
