I was talking about a DNS blacklist (like SURBL, Spamhaus and so on).
Only postings from non-subscribers would be filtered by the blacklist,
so it doesn't matter if it's agressive. (Instructions to subscribe
would be included in the error message.)

I've just implemented this on lists.enyo.de (also a Mailman + Exim
combo), and although it's a kludge (it needs suidperl, unfortunately),
it seems to work.
