With current darcs I often do this:
cd ..
darcs get therepo therepo-bak
cd therepo
darcs unpull # ... and other such destructive stuff
This approach is perfect because it gives me full control over doing and
undoing multiple unpulls, examining what things I've unpulled, etc. But this
usage pattern is not known to new users, who are the group that we are trying
to help with this change.
Hm... I wonder if the user interface or the documentation could somehow guide
new users to this usage pattern.

P.S. By the way, this is yet another data point for the conventional wisdom:
"Q: I want to do such-and-such with darcs. There is no command to do it. How
do I get the desired functionality?
A: You make another repo."
In this case "such-and-such" is "unpull many patches while safely being able to
recover them".
