A guess at the "already added" is that there are files/dirs with the same name but differing in upper/lower case. If so, the --case-ok option will make darcs treat them as different files/dirs (as Unix usually do), and add both of them.
I'm not sure if darcs really hangs or just takes a long time to complete.
