I am very much opposed to that idea: AFAICT there is nothing in the mental model that darcs presents me with that makes this a natural idea, and it would represent a pretty radical departure from the way things used to work. But what about an option --no-unrecorded-changes that those who want to emulate CVS can stick into their preferences? At least it would not hurt unsuspecting users.
