Hello again, > Let us know if you have any new observations or upgrading ghc/darcs > makes a noticable difference.
I built GHC 6.8.3 from source (a plain old tarball, not a Debian package). Then, using that, I compiled darcs (the version right out of the repo at darcs.net). This works much better!!! The same simple darcs operations that I was complaining about previously now run on the order of 0.6 seconds. (Previously they were taking nearly 10 seconds.) This is quite acceptable. By the way, I couldn't help noticing that it's still a bit slower than the (very impressive) 0.1 seconds I used to get for a "darcs w". It turns out that if I repeat the exact same experiment, except without specifying --darcs-2 on the "darcs init" command, then I do get back to the even faster 0.1 second range (even using the darcs2 executable that I compiled). It appears that the old repo format works a little faster than the new, in my case. Does that make sense? Anyway, thanks to you all for the hints. I'm content now. Cheers, - arb _______________________________________________ darcs-users mailing list [email protected] http://lists.osuosl.org/mailman/listinfo/darcs-users
