Yes.  You can see darcs 2 as just a better darcs 1 if you want.

You get some extra benefits if you use hashed repositories (robustness)
or darcs 2 repositories (which are also hashed, but not compatible), but
it's not obligatory.  Even without these format changes, darcs 2 should
provide a better experience.
