On a Mac, you need an explicit "." as first argument to indicate current 
directory. Thus:

> $ find -name xxx
> find: illegal option -- n
> find: illegal option -- a
> find: illegal option -- m
> find: illegal option -- e
> find: xxx: No such file or directory
> $ find . -name xxx
> $

> ...
