Take note that your comment "it's unusual to have such a large initial commit" suggests that maybe I am not using Darcs correctly. Do others agree? If Darcs is not intended to be used for large file bases, then please let me know. Have you tried importing each revision as a separate darcs patch using e.g. tailor?
