Folks: I just wanted to upgrade one of my Windows computers to darcs-2.2.0, and I learned that the new Windows executable doesn't come with putty executables and that the instructions on the wiki have gotten a bit messed up.
So I just did some packaging of Salvatore Insalaco's binary of darcs-2.2.0 for Windows. Here the notes about what I did: 1. Get a recent darcsdir-w32-$VERSION.zip file from https://zooko.com/darcs, unzip it. 2. Get the new darcs binaries zip file from http://homepage.mac.com/kirby81_it/darcs/darcs-2.2.0-win1.zip , unzip it. 3. Make sure all the .exe's and .dll's are mode +x. 4. Copy all the .exe's and .dll's from that latter zip file into the darcsdir-w32 directory, thus overwriting the old darcs.exe that was in darcsdir-w32 until now. 5. Re-zip up the darcsdir-w32 directory. 6. Upload it. This time, instead of uploading it to https://zooko.com , which has a problem with SSL certificates (I guess my web site is just too secure for most users), I uploaded it to the Tahoe public test grid: http://testgrid.allmydata.org:3567/uri/URI:DIR2-RO:bminllzdrpadzvyt54cbhotnam:jqafknaedfksjjq3xmkfpe4g4ppklctw3xwpszufol7zddyx5agq (That is a read-cap -- a read-only view on that directory. I gave Salvatore Insalaco the write-cap -- the URL which allows you to upload new files or change the existing files in that directory.) Now for the cygwin package -- it's almost the same: 7. Get a recent darcsdir-cygwin-$VERSION.zip file from https://zooko.com/darcs , unzip it. 8. Copy all the .dll's from Salvatore's darcs binary zip file into the darcsdir-cygwin folder. 9. Copy the darcs.exe from Salvatore's darcs binary zip file to darcsdir-cygwin/realdarcs.exe , thus overwriting the old realdarcs.exe. 10. Tar it up. 11. Upload it. Okay now to fix up the wiki. 1. Update the "Windows Configuration" section of the wiki to point to the "Binaries" section of the wiki instead of to whatever broken link it used to point to. 2. Remove the following text from the wiki: """ The darcs project is seeking more MS Windows-based developers and builders, please volunteer if you can help. darcs on windows needs some helper apps/libraries for networking. For http, the binary may or may not have curl support built in. For ssh, either putty or cygwin (see http://www.haskell.org/~simonmar/scpwrap.hs) is required. For sending patches by email, ... ? See WindowsConfiguration for more MS Windows installation instructions. Here are the best links for now: """ replace with: """ See WindowsConfiguration for installation instructions. """ 3. Remove all links to Windows executables other than the two "darcsdir" packages described above. If you are a Windows user, please let us know how this works for you!
