Dear darcs folks:
If anyone wants to help Benjamin Jansen bootstrap ghc for Sparc64,
now is the time to do it. Here's the root of the thread:
http://allmydata.org/pipermail/tahoe-dev/2009-March/001463.html
If that doesn't work I'm going to set up some mechanism by which
people can get the latest tahoe source code without requiring darcs,
perhaps by setting up a gateway from darcs into mercurial or bzr.
Regards,
Zooko

Ben Jansen's OpenBSD/Sparc64 buildbot doesn't have darcs. It turns
out that there isn't a Glasgow Haskell Compiler which produces
Sparc64 binaries. There are at least three ways to move forward: 1.
See if you can use Sparc32 binaries on OpenBSD/Sparc64 -- there is a
GHC for Sparc32: http://www.haskell.org/ghc/
download_ghc_6_10_1.html#sparcsolaris
, 2. Port GHC to Sparc64: http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/ghc/
wiki/Building/Porting
, 3. Use some mechanism other than darcs to get the source code
onto Ben's buildbot, such as wget or some sort of gateway from darcs
into a revision control tool that does come with OpenBSD-Sparc64.
FYI, I tried (1) and unfortunately it doesn't work -- it can't run
sparc32 binaries. Incidentally, I haven't found sparc64 binaries for
*any* Solaris package, so I couldn't test whether Solaris/sparc64
binary emulation works.
I'm currently going through (2). It's been slow going since I've had
very little free time the past couple weeks, but I'm making some
progress today.
(3) would probably be the quickest route to successful tahoe builds,
but it would probably eliminate my interest in getting a working ghc
for OpenBSD/sparc64. ;)
