If you're looking for user preference anecdotes:

Each of my co-workers that have considered using darcs, 3 programmers,
commented that it should have an installer.  They are all on windows
and would rather use TortoiseSVN because they could get going faster.

For me at least, this means that it is important to have an installer
with a polished look and feel.  It seems to have an impact on
adoption.

Apply these anecdotes as you see fit :)
