Right now, I'm putting off an upgrade from darcs 2.2 to 2.3 on a developer server because it's noticeably slower for "whatsnew", and this machine needs to interoperate with the older production server.

Isn't the performance regression of "whatsnew" only for darcs-1- format repos, not for hashed-format repos? So the developer server can run darcs v2.3 and hashed-formed repos and still interoperate with the production server which has darcs-1-format repos, right?

Whether or not you are doing this, Mark, if there are other people aren't realizing that they can upgrade to hashed-format while continuing to interoperate with darcs-1-format then that would really slow down the process of getting everyone off of darcs-1-format...

We did have a FAQ type item on the wiki a couple of months ago explaining how you can upgrade to darcs v2, and to hashed-format repos without making the jump to darcs-2-format, right? Maybe we should publicize that more or something.
