this is what happens to tags upon convert. You don't have to worry. You
should probably tag your repository soon though, to regain tag-related
optimisations.


All of the various darcs convert issues makes me wonder if using tailor to
convert from darcs1 format to darcs2 format would be safer.

That would linearize any conflicts, so would only work if your original set of repos didn't have any conflicts between each other - otherwise you wouldn't be able to split the converted repo to recreate the original ones.
