Sigh! Thanks. :-) Time for a bit of conservatism here. > Well, you'd have to check with a lawyer about this, but you could > probably do something like *add to* (not *replace*) the author's > public domain dedication: > > This file is included as part of the Darcs test distribution, > which is licensed to you under the following terms: > > <insert MIT wording here> > > which should be effective in limiting Darcs authors' liability. Well, if the author was intending to public domain his work (not being too aware of the implications), I think we should have no qualms about replacing the declaration outright. Maybe to avoid confusion along the "huh? I thought you said public domain, what's with the copyright" line, I think I'll go for replacing # Public domain 2010 Petr Rockai with # 2010 Petr Rockai # Copyright (C) 2010 The Darcs Team # yada yada yada By the way, what this thread is really pointing to is that we ought to polish off the issue331 task (heh, total coincidence that this thread was about *patch*331) <http://bugs.darcs.net/issue331>. It's the sort of silly looking one-off work (like the camel casing drive) that we just need to get over with and never think about again. I now have "play with licensecheck(1)", pointed out by Trent on that ticket on my list... -- Eric Kow <http://www.nltg.brighton.ac.uk/home/Eric.Kow> For a faster response, please try +44 (0)1273 64 2905.
