What about a future where: * darcs 2.5.X releases are made to fix bugs related to old-fashioned (OF) repositories first-class support. * darcs 2.8 (successor of 2.5) only gets from OF repositories. * darcs hackers have fun and keep on making darcs better, pleasing the users who have never heard, seen nor used OF, and never will. * converting OF to hashed can always be done with darcs, with a separate tool, or in any case, with the following: * satic binaries of v1.0.9, v2.2, v2.3.1, v2.4.4, v2.5.X of darcs remain available via the wiki.
? The phasing-out problem would be taken care of by 2.5.X versions and, above all, people always have the freedom to use older versions. Concerns of OF users (as listed by Eric) should be answered in a wiki page. Let us move forward.
