I don't think anybody was suggesting that :-)
Oops, what I read was more "we commit to bring back hashed performance
on par with OF", so I unconsciously made up the "or else" part. Sorry
for the wrong interpretation and miscommunication.
For what it's worth, I thought that "or else" is what we discussed with
Petr when he was planning to do this on the adventure branch. I may have
misremembered, and especially about the precise details of the performance
target.
