Yes, that's the way of fixing the build failure. For more information about why the flag is necessary, see this issue: http://bugs.darcs.net/issue2095 I think Ganesh is hoping to look at this problem at the sprint next weekend, but until then, you'll have to use that flag, and accept that unicode filenames are not going to be handled properly.
