Today I wanted to see what changes a certain recent patch had to some files.

I knew absolutely that it included modifications to them, I just wasn't certain what.

darcs diff -p "The Patch Name" thefile.css

... produced nothing.

To make a long story short, I was coming to the conclusion that something was broken, I tried all sorts of different things.

Then finally it clicked... there were two patches with the exact same name, the older one was the one I wanted but the newer one was being selected for the diff.

If darcs had just noted on stderr something like

"Warning - 2 Patches Match, selecting the most recent"

it would have saved me half an hour of head scratching.

Stupid mistake I know, but I see darcs inherent helpfulness at the command line as being one of it's biggest benefits.
