Hi Ganesh many thanks for providing this fix! Sorry I did not answer sooner, christmas holidays etc. Using a custom darcs is an option, and I would use it, even if it is a bit less than optimal for us, because some of my co-developers would rather use a darcs that comes with their linux distribution; a 2.8.x bugfix release would probably make a bit sooner it into distributions that a 2.10. I will certainly get your branch and try it out; probably will install it on our development machine, but as I said this will not affect all our developers, so I would strongly vote for a 2.8 release with this fix.
