Press Release # 1 The 2008 CapeStorm Rogaine - Belfast, Mpumalanga -------------- The 2008 CapeStorm Rogaine will take place this year on the weekend of 1 and 2 November in the Belfast Forest Plantation outside Belfast, Mpumalanga. The venue is approximately 10km north-east of Belfast and 30km south-west of Dullstroom. The start and finish location will be the Lakenvlei Forest Lodge. All orienteers, mountain bikers and adventure racers who have participated in our Rogaines in the past and those new to this competitive and recreational sports discipline will be delighted to know that we have once again received permission from Komatiland Forest Limited to access their areas for both the Foot Rogaine as well as the Mountain Bike Rogaine. A 6-hour Foot Rogaine will be held on Saturday 01 November 2008. A shorter 2.5-hour event will also be offered. A 5-hour Mountain Bike Rogaine will be held on Sunday 02 November 2008. A shorter, fun 2.5-hour event will also be offered as well as a short non-competitive foot orienteering course. What is a Rogaine? Rogaining is a sport where teams of 2 navigate their way around an area using a specially drawn map. Teams try to visit as many check points in the area within the set time limit, scoring more points at check points that are further away from the start / finish and at those that are harder to navigate to. Check points can be visited in any order. Teams may finish earlier if they so choose, but all teams MUST return to the start / finish before the cut-off time. Teams will loose points at a high rate for every minute they are late. Teams more than 30 minutes late will be disqualified. The overall winner in the race is the team with the highest nett number of points. For the MTB rogaine, check points will be located on and next to paths, tracks and roads. Mountain bike competitors must complete the entire course with their bikes. What about Accommodation? There is a large variety of accommodation in the Belfast and Dullstroom area, all within easy driving distance of the event centre. The event centre is Lakenvlei Forest Lodge (http://www.lakenvlei.co.za/) How do I enter? Entries will be taken for Male, Female and Mixed pair teams for both days. Final details, as well as the entry forms are already available at www.ar.co.za . Forms will also be available at www.roc.org.za shortly. Prizes? Attractive floating trophies and spot prizes from CapeStorm are up for grabs.
