They are the guys who told me they could not get spokes.

Depends which clown you speak to there.

Got kyserium SL's on my roadbike, broke a spoke a while ago, Cyclelab replaced
it within a day.....but the road wheels are very very common, the
mtb ones not so much.

Hmm - What wheels are you building. The bladed spokes I am referring to are
the ones in the road bike wheels - the Ksyriums - which are the same/similar
to the ones in the Crossmax wheels. They are the Zicral spokes and to answer
your question on strength I don't actually know - some other guys would have
to comment - but they are light and aerodynamic so for XC and roadie work
they are great. Very expensive and difficult to get hold of as well. On
Mavic - any Mavic spares are a pain in the butt to get hold of because the
distributorship changed hands locally and the new guys don't carry stock.
How unusual, the story of South African cycling :-)

If I was building bomb proof FR or DH wheels though I would be looking at
some serious straight gauge spokes like DT Swiss and making sure I had the
right rims, mainly because you are likely to break some and then spares are
easier to get than some exotic spoke.

My 2 cents worth

I don't have a clue about the technical specs of these Mavic bladed spokes,
but now even i want them just because they are difficult to get hold of :-P

So they are super strong for FR, hey?
