WOW what an awesome night! 12 of us rocked up for the annual Jingle Bells ride. With our noble steeds looking more like Christmas trees than anything else we set of into the night. Our minds set on the goal to reach the legendary Lawley street via Klapperkop. The pace was slow and this suited me fine as I was feeling a bit under the weather. Crisscrossing through Pierre van Ryneveld we heard all sorts of comments from pedestrians and motorists alike. Cycling the stretch along the R21 passed quickly as it is downhill most of the way. Then started the climb up to Klapperkop. Firstly a nice bit of single track and then followed with Johan Rissik drive. The speedzone was taken by Nico (I think - I was so far behind). Once to the top it was time for pictures and some laughter in a way that only D&D'ers can enjoy them selfs. Now the freaky downhill started and we ended up at Lawley street in no time!
Eish! The place is a mad house of cars and people trying to see all the lights. Some people might have thought that we were part of the decorations as we stood next to the walls with our Christmas-tree-bicycles :-) A lot of time was spend playing around and taking pictures. The way back started with a serious climb up Rigel road but the reward was sweet and the downhill back to the old D&D center was awesome. From there went up end-of-the-world where the Hardies once again had a super surprise for us in store. Cup cakes and champagne to celebrate yet another awesome D&D year!! Lekker man! A gentle cruise back to the Moomall brought an end to a lekker evening and a wonderful night-riding year. At this point I'd like to thank QT and Hardy for always making Thursday nights something to look forward to. May you guys have lots and lots more smileage in the new year.
