So we get down to Groenies on Sunday for that MTB Oring... and heehaa what a
lekker event it was...
Some folks ask me for quick tips of Nav and the best tips I can give em is..
go orienteering... practice is what it takes...

Nico (Stealth), Russian, Mummy, Carine, MANTiS and many more regular D&D
folks were there to have a good look at what this MTB/mapreading story is
all about... so what makes it different to your regular mtb race?? well...
for one, you get to chose your start time... times are staggered to make it
less easy to just follow other competitors on the course (there were 3
courses of various length and difficulty)

So boom and you are off... you check the map... find where you are and look
for the fastest route to get to the next CP.. to be done in order 1 - 22
(long course 20km).... you zoot and now you get to choose... singletrack? or
dirt road? ... speed or pleasure :-)... hey watch out for those Giraffes and
Zebra...

q.t. and I were being a bit rebellious... doing the event as a pair.. even
though the only catered for "solo" entrants...but we were not concerned
about points and standing...... Man, what a pleasure as we have such a great
synergy together on the course... it was so awesome doing it with her... and
it wasn't long and we came rushing into the finish...q.t. unitentionally
doing a wicked endo...whilst punchin the last control...

The long course had some really faaast competition... it was going to be
interesting as MTB O-ring tends not to be as technical as Foot Oring... but
M.R. Nicholas Mulder (The Nav MASTER) ripped up the course in just over 63
minutes.... wow... thats just under a 20km average in Groenkloof (yes we
went up Onion hill) and having to stop 22 times to clip CP's.... frikkin
AWESOME STUFF!!!!

Brilliantly Organised, can't wait for the next in the series later this
year!!!
