So there I was again. Car broken, Oupa Gert summoned to pick me up from home. :-) The bike doesn't fit so lekker on the other bike.
Bike reassembled (mostly). Battery charged. We pitch at the Moo Mall early enough and wait for the crowds. I hear that my mail might have put some people off from riding (it the the part of me leading the ride, or the part of the wetness warning?). So this dude Christie pitches asking "is there a ride tonight?"... We go: "Heck YEAH" and he goes: "Oh cool". We check out his slick Spaz. He's ridden the 24hour at night but that's it... It looks like rain. We get bored of waiting for other riders and we depart. We ride. We smile. We realise I don't make much of a ride leader these days and Oupa Gert takes the lead. I nearly sh*t myself going down Vetseun for the following reasons: 1. I haven't ridden a mountain bike in 7 weeks. 2. Last time I was on the MTB was a fraction of a second before I was in great pain and rescued and hypothermic. 3. The top of Vetseun has seen a lot of unsavoury characters doing very bad things to our friends of late. 4. We were only three riders. Unwise you might say to still ride. We agree to differ. 5. It was dark. 6. I've lost a lot of the little confidence on the rocky stuff that I had. 7. I was at the back, losing distance all the time from a crazed Oupa Gert and a grinning Christie. So we fly down Verseun. I smile. I missed these rides. We continue riding, chatting, smiling. We go down Cornwall Hill downhill RUSH. We get muddy. It rains lightly. The moon shines prettily. It stops raining. We cruise. I fall behind a couple of times and each time Christie falls back to let me catch up. You're made for this D&D thing, dude! Oupa Gert smiles. Oupa Gert falls into the bushes. After around 40km and zero mechanicals (some lighting issues by yours truly as per usual) Christie splits off toward Irene to go home. Oupa Gert and I continue on Cornwall Hill. We head towards the mall. I fall bum first into a puddle. I smile and exclaim that I'm so happy that I'm not getting back into my own car since Oupa Gert gave me a lift. Oupa Gert smiles hesitantly. We get back to the mall. Just us two. And that's all there's to it. Perfect. 45km, 3 hours, 2 falls, zero mech's. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "DarkAndDirty" group.
