Hi, my name is D1 and it’s been 168 DAYS since my last DnD ride!!! But
when I got the a-ok to ride again, I zoomed in on the list to spot the
first Intro ride….. So Thursday arrived, my bike is ready to go….but
the weather had other ideas! Looking at the weather I thought, I wanna
ride my bicycle I want to ride my bike…I want to ride my bicycle I
want to ride it everywhere….but not in THAT weather!! But in the end
loaded the bike and made my way to the MooMall. They say in the dark
no one hears you scream….but you also DON’t see the lurking
thunderstorm…..so to my surprise a total of 12 riders pitched for the
intro ride, with a whopping 6 newbies! When last did it happen that
the newbies equaled the die-hard-regulars?? AWESOME stuffs!!

Let me try to remember everyone’s names….the die-hard-regulars were
represented by: myself (D1), Hardy (Clinton), Q.T. (Thursia), Stealth
(Nico), Gizzmo (Eric ) & Malcolm (although he was almost mistaken for
a newbie ;) A-a-a-n-n-n-n-d-d-d in the other corner the brand-
spanking-new-newbies of Wian, Lizel, Christiaan, Landie, V8 (Rory) &
Mr. Tigger Big Wheels (hmmm cannot remember your name dude, sorry!)

Just after 19:00 it was Lights, camera & ACTION! We left the Moo Mall
and cruised Cruiser Single track. What an awesome feeling – crisp
fresh air, some stars, some mist….some rain drops…..what a beautiful
night for a night ride! Halfway up Cruiser we hooked a right in the
direction of PVR, to go for a few quick loops in Extacy Park. From
there we turned our backs on the city lights and headed in the
direction of Irene. There were some Karen Zoid moments and tribute
songs….happy chatter and lots of laughter. We hit Wash&Go which turned
out (due to shorter grass and less water) to be a face-wash instead ;)
We headed in the direction of Smuts koppie…but Hardy (although he
previously stated we won’t be doing Python…) we DID do Python single
track…. SWHEEEET man!! After our Python loop we headed for the Hill
that shall not be named! But by the sounds of it, it was named in the
mean time *grin* Sooooo, Tha first SPEED zone!! Quad-Busta Climb!! The
guys got ready to chase up that hill…..and sooooo …they’re off….the
chase for top position leaded by The Man himself Hardy! Halfway up the
field spreaded and Christiaan took the lead pushing hard…Seemed Hardy
had some miss fortune on the last turn, but Christiaan hang on to the
lead….and he raced to the top. Awesome stuffs guys!

Now while they are way up there and have time to ponder the theories
of the a hardtail vs a softail….exetera exetera….. the rest of
us….burn our quads beyond recognition and squeeze the last air out of
our lungs to get up that hill…. At the top Q.T. had still the lung
capacity to remind the guys that the rest of us only arrived now…so
they must keep on pondering on that theories while the rest of us try
to get the air back into our lungs…..that we can try…the legs…I’m
afraid….BUSTED!!

After (what seemed like a very short time) we cruised down the little
hill….me relaxing while just following a perfect line provided by Q.T
– thank you very much :) Then it was time for Look-ma-no-brakes single-
track…. Well for some of us it was literally look-ma-NO-BRAKES!! And
some other look-ma-NEW-BRAKES! So there were a few close encounters,
great recoveries and LOTS of giggles on the way down.

>From here we headed past the cement factory in the direction of the
false-flat….another zone for the speedsters! We headed up there
falsely trying to convince ourselves the busted quads recovered….but
hey…they say pain is weakness leaving the body? This false flat was
more pain entering the body?? *grin* But the guys in the front pushed
hard from the word go…forgetting OR not knowing that it is quite a
loooonnnnggg false flat…so Mr. Stealth himself rained them in and
powered passed to take the second speedzone of the night. We cannot
have newbie’s almost out number us AND take all the speed zones????
LOL!!

It was now time for hopefully the last little bit of a climb up to the
billboards, and then the Shabeen Queen Speed zone!! WHOOHOO!!! DOWN
down DOWN!!! (Something where momentum takes over and you DON’t have
to peddle hard to gain speed!! *grin* It started of moderately….would
have thought the guys would bomb down there….but then Q.T. started the
chase for the title and the race to save the Ego’s started *grin*
Malcolm chased like a mad man and caught up eventually to take the
Shabeen Queen speed zone :)

We then headed down on some of the 2% tar in the route in the
direction of the MooMall. Stealth and Q.T. leaded the speedsters chase
down the tar and did the die-hard-regulars proud and secured the speed
zones 3/1!

We cruised the last single tracks back to the MooMall, encounter our
first little mechanical for the evening, by little I mean we cable tie
the back derailleur etc to the bike and hook up a tow rope to get the
bike back to the mall ;)

We arrived back at the MooMall, all smiles! What an awesome ride :)

Thanks guys and girls! It was AWESOME being out there again!
Tanks to Hardy for leading us, Eric for sweeping us and Q.T. for lots
and lots and lots of *giggles*!
Too all the rest – Thanks for joining us – like Hardy always say – it
was an honor sharing the dirt with ya!
