an avalanche is like a mass-downhill-event, where everybody starts at the same time. claimed not to be AS technical as proper downhill, and also claimed to be more fun. have cycled a few weeks ago with 2 guys who were at the megavalanche in alpe d heuz (or how-ever you spell it) recently - they raved about the event.
