Heya Dirtlings, Wow, thanks for all the folks for sharing their event reports.. it really is awesome to read all the war stories... As for intersting stories... as some of us are into the paddle and saddle thing on Thurday nights. let me tell you about last weeks Paddling timetrial... sjoe... it started off in a nice charge off to the first bouy, we do 4x 2,5km laps for the 10km timetrial... the water was calm event hough there were some cloud build up on the horizon... we had a few newbies coming to "test" the water.. were in for a real treat and a good lesson on how quickly things can change...
So the first lap was nice and fast and as we headed out for lap two, I chirp Nigel about the dark clouds that were getting very "close" and the bloke behind reckons "naah boet those clouds will move off to the east" .. man.. a few moments later as we were nearing the furtherst bouy (there where the hippos oftne hang out) the storm attacks in full gale force..Huge waves pump all around..Emergency siren goes off... most blokes tunr and make an immediat b-line for home, I hang on to pass the last bouy, reckoning that if it settles down I could still finish the TT. The wind goes insane... boats start sinking, I feel like I am in a mini surfski event... (oneday when I am big :-) ... waves literally cresting and breaking all over the place... thank heavens I did not swim and eventually finish the lap.... we see some submerged k2's come in that are completely flooded... just the paddlers above the water.. man that was crazy and taught us all a big lesson on why we should be wearing splash covers.. All the newbies were luckily not far from the clubhouse and got a real show as everyone else fought their way back... Du Toit was probably the last boat back, having sunk twice he waited on the side till things calmed down a bit.. Anyway the D&D ride after that was amazing... but we will have to wait for Stan the Man to finish his report... He was spotted going over the bars on a twisty singletrack... But as for this week... Yeah Baby... its ROCK & ROLL TIME!!! Yepp this is the one where we take on all the gnarlies.. A lot of "speedzones" up hill and awesome gnarly singletracks downhill.... Got a tweek to cut out the Smuts downhill that has been tamed.. atleast untill the summer storms have returned her to former gnarlyness.. but yes, we will be going down Quad Busta instead... woohoo... All still ridden at your own risk and comfortable pace, but you will be more comfortable if you are fit for this particular ride :-) See ya 2morrow folks, and if you are keen for Noon2Moon, pop me a mail so I can keep you in da loop with plans. l8r hardy -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "DarkAndDirty" group.
