believe it or not, the rear derrailleur was still working with that mud-cake
on there :)

i gave that lap up and dragged the bike back to the transition area - it
took about an hour to get the bike back; it weighed 100 kgs or there-abouts,
and the back-wheel stopped turning the moment i stopped pedalling. it took
about 2 hours to clean it (with the help of a good samaritan), lubed it, and
then continued for another 80 kays or so - but only after they cut that
particular piece of track ut of the loop.

will clean it properly tonight and see what the damage is.
