As a new Year of Dark and Dirty unveils itself, It was amazing to see what 2 weeks of NOT servicing the singletrack in the dark can do to both the track and the people riding it, but more on that later. Firstly i want to wish everybody a great, safe and adventurous year. May the Dirt be with you!!
We got taken into the first dark and dirty ride of new year with Gadget(Eric) leading the way and Deekayotic(Donald) sweeping as we hit the road leading to the tracks. Dude, is this place overgrown or what? You know that the singletrack is there somewhere hidden in the thick grass, but you can't realy see it, you must just go for it and then it is there. Well at least we opened the tracks a bit again. Because of this overgrowth, people do funny things like ride into trees and rocks and stuff, some even got a new found fear of mud, but most people blamed the holiday season for these mishaps. I remember, it was quite funny, we did python singletrack and as we came back Eric paused (everybody quiet), "And now we go up here..(Quadbuster)". A moment of complete silence and no excitement at all followed by a few moans and groans with one mumbling that his Christmas lunch is still in his stomach. Then somebody mumbled: "Why do we include Quadbuster in intro rides again?" as if eric was gonna listen to her. We went up Quadbuster, and it was a bit more washed out than i remember, Nico took the podium, but was also complaining about hitting rocks. It was hard, and then we all knew Christmas had took it's toll. We went down Look Ma no Brakes, and close to the bottom there were allot of washed out pebbles the size of bokdrolle and Doc(Eugene) went out singing: "Look Ma no Brakes, Bokdrol Paradys!". Coming back we hit the tar stretch going over the R21 bridge, taking the singletrack to the left. It was very overgrown here, and people were taking it slowly queuing. I mos think i can ride everywhere if you have enough speed, so while the main track was congested i tried to go full speed next to the track through the overgrowth and rode strait into a tree, where after i returned very embarrassed to the sweeper licking my wounds. It was a lekker night, and thanks to the weather gods most stayed completely dry accept me riding through a few mud pools. The Mummy Man
