Hey All you adventurous folks. Well, its game on for this weekend.. race organising has been quite a task in an area where land access is so tight and diverse. However, the team work from Tshwane adventure racing club has come up with a fantastic, exciting route. Folks, I have been enjoying the adventure and the challenges of AR from 2002 and as part of our clubs goal, to provide AR learning experience..I really look and believe that we have come up with a great mix.
The access to the race is easy, 20mins from Pretoria. No seconds required. Teams will get some great night navigation racing experience. Mountainbiking will be fast at times, yet occasionally very technical... so take care..the rain has made some gnarlies.. Navigation on MTB moderate to easy. Hiking will go from dirt roads to rocky/technical hiking... Navigation on hikes a bit more challenging, especially for the speedy teams.. however the placement of CP's all have solid "handrails" eg powerlines,rivers, roads... that can help. You just need to pay attention to the map.... But yes, it will certainly help if your navigator can find North. Thanks to all the teams that have entered so far, we trust that the experience you get from the race will certainly be valuable for future events that you participate in. As a club, we have put in roughly 90hours already on making this happen and a few more hours still before friday night. We figure that if 10x 4 person teams are out there taking an average of 8 hours to complete, then that would = 320 ADVENTURE hours that is spent out there by the sum of participants, which we believe is a great investment in our sport. Some basics on the race.. MTB about 65km Hike about 18km.. Transitions 4...8x private land/farm access. Yes you will get wet, so come prepared, this is adventure racing (old school style). No the race will not be postponed if it is raining. Racing time estimates... will be interesting to see how close these are.. Winning teams - 6:30.. Middle teams 9:30...Back markers 12:00 Guys, we are more interested in you finishing the race, so don't worry there are no time cut-offs etc..
