I can also start cycling on an indoor trainer today! Yeah, weeks earlier than
anybody anticipated! (Refer to line one again)

Thanks

No, this is not the ride report; we are waiting for newbie Carina to write that.

Last Thursday we had two newbies, Carina and Stefan. This report is about
Stefan who is my son-in-law. You see, for more than seven years Stefan suffered
from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome also known as "Yuppy Flu" - that debilitating
disease that doctors still don't know the cause of or how to treat it. Before
he got the CFS, Stefan used to be an active young man riding the Argus in
around three hours, but after he caught it he was restricted to a life of
constant rest with barely enough energy to complete his Master's degree.

A year ago he could not even walk a hundred meters and had to use a wheelchair
at airports to get on and off planes. He tried numerous remedies, but nothing
seemed to improve his condition.
Family and friends were constantly praying for his recovery. About a year ago
he started a very moderate exercise program and has been increasing the
intensity very gradually. Many days it seems he was going one step forward and
two backwards, but lately the progress was increasing almost dramatically.

When he announced last week that he wanted to join me for Dark & Dirty, I was
sceptical, but kept it to myself and encouraged him to do it. So last week was
very special, even epic, as I am sure no one riding would even have suspected
that Stefan is anything other than a regular mountain biker. And he enjoyed it,
especially liking the drop-offs and technical bits.

I really believe that Stefan's ride was nothing less than a miracle and an
answer to many prayers. Praise the Lord, He is good!

Oupa Gert.
