It started with a cool clear evening, but not another cyclist in sight. So
Oupa Gert and I waited a while hoping for some stragglers (which didn't
arrive) and then headed off on a 25km Urban Bash.

Just past the airport Oupa's chain started singing loudly and it was quite
a way until the next garage, where there may have been some oil from a used
tin, but after digging through his backpack we found a small oil sample
which was there from the Sani2C. So the whine returned to a purr. After
that we continued on various single tracks and quiet residential roads to
the other side of the N1, up a long hill to a water tower. At some point
while crossing an intersection island, there must have been a burst water
pipe because we suddenly hit some thick red slippery mud (my first taste of
Pta in the summer - and I hear the grass can reach over your head).

Later on we did some slalom down a long concrete sloot, which we needed to
do to avoid the bricks every 20m or so. Very nice! And then while looking
for a track across the veld below the sloot, Oupa took a dive when his bike
got tangled in some barbed wire. But no harm done, and we found the track
nearby and headed down towards, and then under, the R21. At mieliemuur we
decided not to take the soft winding road and headed up along the wall all
the way to the top. The last bit was really slippery but lekker.

And so that was that, a lekker D&D and the absentees really missed out.
It's really great to be finding my cycling legs again after so many years,
and as Oupa Gert said, a big answer to the prayers of many.

Ciao
