So, the ride always happens, doesn't need an event, BUT since there was a birthday, cupcakes were advertised, and no fewer than 8 riders rocked up for the scoff. Unfortunately the birthday boy didn't make it, apparently due to Stan's leaking from his nasal orifices, but that didn't stop us celebrating in true Dark and Dirty style, honouring him with a ride down his favourite singletrack (vetseun se rol), and scoffing cupcakes, coffee and gluwein at the top of quadbuster (a.k.a. hike a bike after the route we took last night?) and generally just being festive.
Talking of Stan's, that is also the reason yours truly was awarded the dubious honour of writing the ride report. A very secretive crash occurred down vetseun, and nobody would have been any the wiser if it wasn't for the major red Stans leak from the knee. Next time I'm taking gators with... So, a great turnout, with regulars Oupa Gert, Nico, Hardy, and Ducttape, as well as Johan, Krieg, Werner and Rudolf. 3 newbies! On a winter DnD ride! And looks like they are all converts now. And since Oupa Gert organised the weather in advance with the SAWB, we had a really nice night out, riding vetseun, python, a variation on quadbuster, and numerous other great singletrack sought out by our alternating trailmeisters Hardy, Oupa Gert and Nico. The "kuier" at the top of quadbuster was, of course, seriously lekker, with copious amounts of trail-compressed cupcakes (thanks OG), coffee (thanks Hardy), and gluwein. The evening was pleasant, no-one got cold, so the only thing missing was the rest of you guys and especially ladies (yip, no girls arrived last night) to make it a perfect night out. Somehow the speed zones were avoided in favour of more singletrack, so no engines were blown, but we definitely did our bit for clearing the trails of rocks. So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, VORTEXE! Sorry you missed out on an awesome ride, which definitely was, in your honour, more of a Rock and Rock than Rock and Roll.
